0Inch dimensions use stacked fractions (nearest 1/64″); pipe length display is selectable per part. Catalogue designations retain their specified units.

Define your first part to build the bill of materials,
or load an example pressure vessel.
WEIGHT (kg) is the total for the stated quantity. Unit weights remain available in the part editor.
Weights use nominal dimensions and selected density. Welds, coatings, internals and contents are included only when added as separate items.
Material library
Room-temperature density assumptions for theoretical mass.
Added materials are saved with this browser project and included in project downloads.
Grade and density are separate inputs
The family selects a representative density. Enter the actual ASTM / ASME material specification from your drawing and override density when supported by your material certificate. A grade label does not validate material suitability, temperature service or code compliance.
Calculation basis
Geometry, units and references behind every line item.
Mass = material volume × density
Dimensions are stored in millimeters, volume is converted from mm³ to m³ by dividing by 10⁹, and mass is reported in kg. One inch equals exactly 25.4 mm. Line mass equals unit mass × quantity.
Use nominal purchased or finished thickness, including corrosion allowance already present in that thickness. Do not add corrosion allowance a second time. Openings and cutouts are excluded except for tubesheet tube holes, ring bolt holes and explicitly entered lug holes. Cladded parts use separate base and cladding thicknesses and densities.
Standards & source references
ASME dimensional standards define geometry and tolerances; mass is calculated from geometry and density. This calculator does not determine design thickness, MAWP, pressure rating or compliance with ASME VIII / API 650.

- Wheatland Schedule 40 submittal, WFS-121824: selected NPS 1–8 OD and wall presets. Dimensional convenience only, not approval for process service.

- ArcelorMittal structural section tables: reference for catalogue kg/m and rolled section geometry. Listed designation presets fill published structural-steel kg/m automatically; custom sections accept manual supplier values. The selected source and standard basis are shown in the editor.

Approximate catalogue masses, normalized from kg/1,000 pieces; the editor states included components. Reference density for optional scaling is assumed to be 7,850 kg/m³. DIN patterns are preserved as published; ISO patterns are not silently substituted.

Formed ellipsoidal heads and cones use nominal mean-surface estimates. Certified head, flange and assembly weights should be entered as purchased items. Density presets are representative values, not guarantees for an individual heat.
